Redwood  and Elder- Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

The children have settled well into their new classes and are already busy with their learning.

Below is the full overview for this half term.

School Journey

We are really looking forward to going on school journey on Monday 6th January.

Please remember that we need your dietary and medical forms back asap.

Reminders:  

No phones or electronic devices – you won't have time for them!

*  You need to bring a lunch for the Monday you go.  (Sorry I forgot to tell you this in the meeting!) 

You can bring money  (you don't have to!) – up to £5 in a named wallet.  Staff will keep this for you until it is your turn to go to the tuck shop.

You must bring any medication you need with you on the Monday you leave so this can be given to a member of staff and your parent can sign to say how and when we need to give it to you.

Wear old clothes!  You don't need anything new.  It should also have your name in it!

* Please make sure someone is ready to pick up your child on Friday. We should be back at normal school finishing time and will keep you updated.  No child can go home on their own.

Reading

We are currently reading 'Secrets of The Sun King' by Emma Carroll. 

 

History

In History, we are learning about Ancient Egypt. We will explore sources of evidence such as artefacts, we will consider aspects of daily life and create a timeline charting the key events and achievements of the civilisation. We are hoping to visit a museum to see authentic and replica artefacts to further our learning about this fascinating civilisation.

 

 Science - Materials and their Properties

 PSHE and RE

PSHE and RE In PSHE, we will be focusing on ‘Being Me In My World’ and will be learning about our rights and responsibilities as part of our community.

In RE, we will be focusing on Islam. We will learn about the five pillars of Islam the importance of fasting during Ramadan and the meaning of Id-ul-Fitr  and Za-kat al Fitr.

Computing

Computing We will be developing our understanding of e-safety, by considering what should and should not be shared on the internet. We will also learn about computer systems, search engines and how to use these effectively.
