Name change consultation
In the Autumn Term 2022 we launched a consultation seeking our community’s feedback on changing the name of our school.
The consultation ran from 27th September to 15th November and asked our community to vote on three potential new names selected by our pupils - or to vote against changing the name of the school. In total, we received 450 online responses from parents, staff, pupils and the local community. We also ran one in person consultation event.
The overwhelming majority of respondents voted in favour of changing the school's current name, with the most popular option being to change the name to Twin Oaks Primary School. I am therefore delighted to let you know that we will be formally changing our name to Twin Oaks Primary School.
This name was originally suggested by our pupils, because of the two oak trees which grow around our entrance. I’m thrilled our pupils have been able to play such a central role in this renaming process.
As a reminder, the decision to consult on changing the school name was taken by the Governing Body, who felt that the slave trade links associated with the current name sat at odds with the values of our school.
While the change in name is effective immediately, it will take us time to fully transition as we design a new logo and put in place the things that need to change.
This change marks an exciting new chapter for the school, as we also celebrate our recent “Good” Ofsted rating in all categories last year. I am so excited to see what 2023 brings for us at Twin Oaks Primary School as we continue to provide a happy and welcoming environment at our school, while equipping all our pupils with the education, skills and confidence needed to succeed.
